Artist Francis Seymour Leslie

This artist was an officer in the Royal Engineers and this view is of the Thames at Woolwich in 1894. At that time many army officers were trained in drawing and it was not unusual for them to develop a wider interest in art. Mr Leslie became a Lieutenant in 1871 and subsequently was promoted to Captain, Major and Lieutenant-Colonel in 1898. Some of his time was spent in South Africa. There is some more information on his career on this web page: http://www.artefacts.co.za/main/Buildings/archframes.php?archid=969&countadd=1
